Magnesium oxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MgO. It is magnesium oxide and an ionic compound. It is a white solid at room temperature. Magnesium oxide exists in nature in the form of periclase and is the raw material for magnesium smelting.
Magnesium oxide has high fire-resistant insulation properties. It can be transformed into crystals after being burned at a high temperature of more than 1000°C, and it becomes dead-burned magnesium oxide (magnesia) or sintered magnesium oxide when it rises to 1500-2000°C.

Double reduction carbonization method
In order to improve the extraction rate of magnesium oxide and reduce the energy consumption of the product. To improve product quality and increase product variety, the double reduction carbonization process mainly changes the carbonization conditions and eliminates the high energy consumption production process. The purified lime emulsion is carbonized under specific conditions to dissolve 80-90% of MgO and generate a supersaturated solution of light magnesium carbonate containing 20-30 g/L of MgO. After rapid filtration, the saturated solution of light magnesium carbonate is decomposed at 20-30 degrees under specific conditions to obtain basic magnesium carbonate. The basic magnesium carbonate filter cake contains only 50-60% water. After calcination, a light magnesium oxide product is obtained.
(1) The extraction rate of magnesium oxide is increased by 20-30%.
(2) The compression and pyrolysis processes are eliminated, reducing the water content of the basic magnesium carbonate filter cake by 25-30%.
Therefore, the coal consumption per ton of light magnesium oxide product is reduced by 75% and the electricity consumption is reduced by 65%.
High-purity metal magnesium reacts with oxygen to generate crystal nuclei, and then the particles continue to grow to obtain high-purity micro-powder magnesium oxide. The crude raw material containing more than 80% (by weight) of magnesium oxide is dissolved in an inorganic acid (sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid) at a molar ratio of 1:2 to obtain a magnesium salt of an inorganic acid. After purification to remove impurities, the mixture is subjected to pressure heating treatment in an oxygen atmosphere, and then washed, dehydrated, dried, and heated at 1100°C for 1 hour to obtain high-purity magnesium oxide.
Magnesium hydroxide calcination method: Using the purified magnesium sulfate solution as raw material, pure ammonia water as a precipitant is added to the magnesium solution to precipitate Mg(OH)2, and solid-liquid separation is performed by a plate and frame filter press. The filter cake is washed to obtain high-purity Mg(OH)2, and then dried and calcined to obtain high-purity magnesium oxide.
The calcined magnesia powder is water-selected to remove impurities and then precipitated into magnesium slurry. Then, through digestion, drying and calcination, magnesium hydroxide is dehydrated to generate magnesium oxide:
MgO+H2O→Mg(OH)2
Mg(OH)2→MgO+H2O
Magnesium Oxide exhibits a strong affinity for moisture and carbon dioxide, forming magnesium hydroxide or magnesium carbonate upon reaction. This makes it an effective material for applications requiring reactivity and absorption capabilities. Its thermal stability and basic nature also allow it to function as a refractory and neutralizing agent.
